Lorem Ipsum Generator
Placeholder text for a layout you are still designing: choose how many paragraphs, sentences or words you need, and the text appears below ready to paste. There is a switch to wrap each paragraph in an HTML paragraph tag, and another to open on the familiar first line. The same settings always produce the same text, so a mockup can be rebuilt later and still match.
Placeholder text, not real Latin. The words are Latin-looking fragments that carry no meaning, so take them out before anything ships. Counts describe the text itself — ticking HTML paragraphs adds tags to what you copy but does not change the character count. Everything is built in your browser from a word list inside this page; nothing is sent anywhere.
How to generate Lorem Ipsum text
- Type how much you need, then choose whether that number counts paragraphs, sentences or words.
- Decide whether to open on the classic first line, and whether each paragraph should be wrapped in an HTML tag.
- Check the counts, then copy the text and paste it into your layout.
When you'd use this
- Filling a design mockup — Neutral blocks of text let you judge spacing, line length and hierarchy without real copy pulling your eye.
- Stress-testing a template — Asking for a known number of paragraphs shows how a page behaves when the text runs much longer than the sample.
- Building components — Cards, list rows and article previews all need sample text before the real content has been written.
- Comparing typography — A fixed word count gives two fonts, sizes or line heights exactly the same amount of text to be judged on.
Good to know
- It is nonsense, and that is the point — The words are Latin-looking fragments from the passage this kind of filler has used for decades. They do not mean anything, so nobody starts reading the text instead of looking at the design.
- The same settings give the same text — Nothing here is random. Sentence lengths follow a fixed repeating pattern and words are picked by position, so the counts shown are exact and returning with the same settings reproduces the same block.
- Only paragraph mode splits the text up — Asking for a number of sentences or words gives one continuous run of text. Switch to paragraphs if you need it broken into separate blocks.
- Take it out before you publish — Placeholder text has a habit of surviving into live pages and printed proofs. Searching a draft for the word lorem before it ships is a cheap check that has saved a lot of embarrassment.
Frequently asked questions
What is Lorem Ipsum?
It is filler text that designers and typesetters have used for a very long time, based on a scrambled passage of classical Latin. It reads like language without being readable, which is exactly what you want standing in for copy that has not been written yet.
Why does it produce the same text every time?
Because the generator is deterministic rather than random: sentence lengths follow a fixed pattern and each word is chosen by its position in the list. That keeps the paragraph, sentence and word counts exact, and it means a mockup can be regenerated later and still match.
How do I get HTML paragraphs?
Tick the HTML paragraphs box. Each paragraph is then wrapped in an opening and closing paragraph tag, one per line, so the output can be pasted straight into a template or a content field.
Does the character count include the tags?
No. It counts the text itself, with a blank line between paragraphs, so the figure does not move when you tick the HTML paragraphs box. The word and sentence counts are unaffected by it too.
Is there a limit on how much it will generate?
One run gives you up to 100 paragraphs, 500 sentences or 5,000 words, and the result line says so whenever a larger request has been trimmed. The cap keeps the page quick to use; generate a second block if you need more.
